Whitney
About This Event
Chicago-born indie band, hometown show, Greg Mendez opening.
Whitney came together in 2014 after guitarist Max Kakacek's old band Smith Westerns broke up and he started writing songs with Julien Ehrlich, who'd been drumming for Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The two were Chicago roommates at the time, both coming out of bad breakups, trading a guitar and a lyrics notebook back and forth through one of the city's roughest winters — the sessions that became their 2016 debut, Light Upon the Lake. Ehrlich ended up as the band's falsetto-voiced frontman almost by default, since he was simply the one singing when the songs started taking shape.
This is Whitney's first Chicago show since a December 2022 date at Thalia Hall — nearly four years between hometown sets. Worth knowing: tickets run from around $64, and doors are at 6:30 for a 7:30 start — check metrochicago.com for current availability.
