Rocket From The Crypt: Scream, Frankenstein, Scream! Tour

Metro · Wrigleyville

About This Event

San Diego horn-punk lifers touring behind unearthed early tapes from "Scream, Dracula, Scream!" — and The Get Up Kids, genuine emo-scene royalty in their own right, are the opener, not filler. 18+.

John Reis — who's performed under the stage name Speedo for the band's entire run — formed Rocket From the Crypt in 1990 after growing disillusioned with his hardcore band at the time, Pitchfork. The lineup grew a literal horn section early on, which became the band's signature: punk energy with trumpet and saxophone stabs layered over it, matching leather-jacket-and-flames stage uniforms, and a reputation as one of the most purely fun live bands of their era. Rocket From the Crypt signed to a major label (Interscope) off the strength of 1992's Circa: Now!, played a farewell show on Halloween night 2005, and has reunited only occasionally since 2013 — this tour is one of those rare occasions.

Worth knowing: tickets are $36 in advance, $41 day-of, and the show is 18+ — doors at 7:30 for an 8:30 start.
