Tank and the Bangas
About This Event
New Orleans genre-bending band headlines.
The group is led by Tarriona "Tank" Ball, a New Orleans slam poet who built a band around her spoken-word background before she'd really planned on fronting one — the result folds rock, gospel, funk, musical theater, hip-hop and R&B into whatever a given song needs, which is why critics have mostly given up trying to pin a single genre on them. Their break came in 2017, when they won NPR's Tiny Desk Contest outright — unanimously, out of more than 6,000 submissions from all fifty states — on the strength of a bouncy, loose-limbed song called "Quick."
This stop is part of their Last Balloon Tour, with Ariel J. opening. Worth knowing: tickets start around $43, and doors are at 8 for an 8 PM set — check the venue's calendar for current availability.
