Regulars have been calling it Michael's for decades, and the house specialty is the extra thin and crispy tavern-style pie, cut in squares the Chicago way, with double dough available on request for anyone who wants more bite. The 12-inch cheese starts at $13.60, and Michael's Special, loaded with sausage, mushroom, green pepper and onion, is the order to start with. The kitchen also turns out a classic deep dish baked with a caramelized crust overflowing with cheese, a white pizza with garlic and three cheeses and no tomato sauce, and a gluten-free crust.

Beyond pizza, the menu is pure tavern: Buffalo wings by the six, dozen or two dozen, a nacho platter, Buffalo shrimp, stuffed jalapeños and a house chili the menu calls award-winning, plus Italian beef, a toasted Da Cheezy Beef with melted mozzarella and provolone, char-grilled Italian sausage and the beef-and-sausage combo. It has been featured on WGN's Around Town and on Fox 32, there's a party room for groups, and online ordering covers pickup and delivery. The kitchen is open from 11am daily, until 11pm Monday through Thursday, midnight on weekends and 10pm Sunday.
