A Game That Picks Your Next Meal For You

Every group chat has had this exact conversation: someone asks where to eat, someone says "I don't care, you pick," and twenty minutes later nobody has picked anything. Dish Picker exists for that exact moment. Hit Start, and instead of scrolling five different apps hoping something jumps out at you, you get one real, specific answer — a dish, a place, and a reason to actually go.

This isn't a random name generator pointed at a list of restaurants. Every pick comes from the same real database that powers the rest of ChicagoSpecials.com — actual happy hours, daily specials, and "ask for this by name" dishes, each one researched and kept current, not scraped from an old menu PDF and left to rot. If Dish Picker lands you on a $1 oyster happy hour at a seafood dive in Lincoln Park, that happy hour is genuinely running right now.

Can I pick a specific dish, like pizza or burgers?

Yes. Tap the craving button above the machine and choose from about a dozen categories — pizza, burgers, tacos and Mexican, BBQ, wings, sushi, ramen, seafood, Italian, breakfast and brunch, dessert, drinks and happy hour, or sandwiches. Leave it on "Any Craving" and every real special in your chosen area is in play. Stack it with a neighborhood pick, too — "pizza in Wicker Park" works exactly like you'd expect.

Can I pick a specific neighborhood?

Yes. Tap the neighborhood button above the machine and you get three ways in: browse every pick sorted by how many deals are on file there, filter down to just Chicago proper or just the suburbs, or type a few letters to jump straight to one spot — Wicker Park, Naperville, wherever. Leave it on "Anywhere" and Dish Picker pulls from the whole city and suburbs at once.

How does it actually decide?

Randomly, within whatever pool you've set. Nothing here is trying to upsell a sponsored listing — Dish Picker draws an even random pick from every real, currently-live special in your chosen area, the same way flipping a coin would, just with better odds of landing somewhere good.

Is it free, and do I need an account?

Free, no account, no email required to play. There's a newsletter in the footer if you want the Gem of the Week in your inbox, but the game itself doesn't ask for anything.

What if I don't like the pick?

Hit Start Again. Nothing's final until you actually walk in the door — the whole point is to cut the scrolling-and-debating part down to one tap, not to lock you into the first thing that comes up.
