The decor is classic Walker Bros., all warm wood and glass, and the kitchen turns out the same menu as the bigger locations. The reason to go is the apple pancake, the signature that built the North Shore chain: an oven-baked pancake piled with apples and finished in a cinnamon glaze, big enough to cover the plate. It's the dish behind USA Today naming Walker Bros. one of the country's top ten pancake restaurants and Zagat calling it Chicago's best breakfast, 'bar none.' The German pancake, with lemon and powdered sugar, is the lighter classic, and the corned beef hash is the savory side regulars order alongside the apple pancake rather than choosing between them. Because the room is small, the weekend wait here can be longer than at other locations, and like all Walker Bros. there are no reservations.
It's open 7am to 2:30pm daily for breakfast and brunch only. Carryout is available, but the chain doesn't partner with delivery apps, so call ahead for pickup. No special or deal — just a smaller room with the same famous pancake.
