Volo Restaurant & Wine Bar

DrinkRoscoe Village · Wine Bar Community-sourced, unverified
📍 2008 W Roscoe St, Chicago, IL 60618

Volo occupies a boutique storefront in Roscoe Village, about a mile and a half from Wrigley Field, and its biggest differentiator isn't the menu -- it's the patio.

$$
$1 oysters alongside a real wine list makes this one of the better quiet happy hours in the city.

The space is built around a year-round heated, enclosed patio, the kind that actually gets used in February rather than sitting empty for five months of Chicago winter, and Chicago Magazine named it one of the city's top hidden patios. Happy hour is a genuinely good deal: $1 oysters, $2 limoncello shots, and $3 off flatbreads. The restaurant opened in spring 2005 as a partnership between chef Stephen Dunne, who came up as chef de cuisine at mk, and Jon Young, who already owned Kitsch'n on Roscoe and Kitsch'n River North before teaming up on this small-plates wine bar.

The wine focus isn't incidental -- the list runs to around 30 boutique wines by the glass, built specifically to pair with Dunne's seasonal New American menu. The restaurant has collected multiple "best wine bar" and "best wine list" honors from local outlets over the years.
