David Halpern and his partners -- the team also behind Estelle's -- opened The Owl in September 2011 with a specific goal in mind: build "neighborhood bars that feel like they've been there forever."

Fifteen years in, the formula still holds -- an old-school, non-digital jukebox, 20 draft lines, burlesque shows, a photobooth, and a late-night license that keeps the room open until 4am most nights and 5am on Saturdays, with Time Out noting the place stays genuinely packed right up until last call. That staying power has earned it Chicago Reader's "Best 4am Bar" honor every year since it opened, a streak that's hard to fake.

It runs no kitchen -- nearby spots like BiXi Beer and Taco Maya cover the food angle -- and keeps the focus narrow: late-night drinks, dancing, and DJs on Friday and Saturday. Time Out gave it three out of five stars with a "Recommended" tag.
