No sign out front, just a 100-year-old frame house — Bourdain called the bartenders here some of the best in the city while filming The Layover.

It's run as a genuine music venue and bar in an industrial pocket near the North Branch of the Chicago River, hosting live shows and neighborhood block parties for decades. Anthony Bourdain singled it out on Twitter while filming The Layover's Chicago episode in 2012, calling out the bartenders by name alongside Old Town Ale House and Billy Goat Tavern as the city's best.

No frills, no sign, no pretense — exactly the kind of place that rewards someone telling you it exists.
