The Drifter

River North · Cocktail Bar Community-sourced, unverified
📍 676 N Orleans St, Chicago, IL 60654

The Drifter sits in the basement beneath Green Door Tavern, inside one of the few wooden buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 — a real historical pedigree, not just a marketing line.

$$$

Finding it is part of the draw: head to the back-left corner of the tavern upstairs, past a neon 'pool room' sign toward the restrooms, down a staircase, and through a door disguised as a bookshelf.

It's a genuine 1920s-speakeasy-styled cocktail room rather than a themed gimmick layered onto an existing bar, with its own identity distinct from the tavern above it.
