Founder Aigerim Mambetova has had a sweet tooth for as long as she can remember, and in 2017 she started her confectionery business by making honey cakes and selling them to cafes and restaurants around Chicago. In 2021 she opened her own place, a cozy room designed for lingering, and the honey cake is still the signature, $7 a slice or by the whole cake if you pre-order. The dessert case goes deeper: Napoleon layered with pastry cream, a moon cake, a merengue roulette and a pistachio raspberry cake for celebrations. Breakfast is the surprise.
Mambetova says the menu has no analogue in Chicago, and it leans Eastern European and Central Asian alongside the brunch standards: syrniki, the golden farmer-cheese pancakes, served plain or with mango sauce, farmer cheese crepes, ground beef crepes, Nutella crepes, Manchego and creamy shrimp omelettes and an eggs Benedict. Lunch brings solyanka soup, a tom yum, quinoa bowls, a chicken cutlet and sandwiches from salmon to avocado and egg. There's coffee, homemade fruit teas and juices, too. It's open every day from 9am to 7pm, and cakes and dishes can be pre-ordered online for pickup.
