Shaw's Crab House on Hubbard Street is the River North seafood institution that every Chicagoan's out-of-town relatives eventually get taken to, for good reason.

Shaw's has been Lettuce Entertain You's seafood house since 1984, working directly with fishermen and farmers to fly in daily catches from both coasts and then mostly staying out of their way: simple preparations, quality first. The room is cast in a 1940s style and split in two, with the lively, casual Oyster Bar on one side and the white-tablecloth Main Dining Room on the other. The menu covers oysters from both coasts, Florida stone crab with mustard mayo, king crab legs by the pound, a $38 crab cake, a classic lobster roll, sushi and fresh fish, and it ends, as it should, with key lime pie. The deals are better than the white tablecloths suggest. The $40 three-course lunch runs daily from 11:30am to 3:30pm.

Weekday Oyster Bar happy hour, 3 to 5pm, brings half-price oysters ($12 a half dozen), a $15 mini lobster roll trio and $5 Guinness. Thursday nights bring live blues to the Oyster Bar from 5 to 8pm. Valet is available. Book on OpenTable.
