Owner Mutaz Abdullah comes from two generations of the trade: his grandfather baked in the Levant, and his father opened Hyde Park's Cedars Mediterranean Kitchen in 1992. Seedo's turns that heritage into a weekday Loop breakfast-and-lunch stall inside Sterling Food Hall (the former Revival Food Hall), and Chicago Magazine has called it a genuine refuge from the lunch crush. The menu pulls from Palestine, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq instead of flattening the region into 'Middle Eastern.' Mornings start with the egg sandweesh ($8): baked egg, cheddar and harissa chili-crunch aioli on house taboon bread. The pastry case is the draw, and it sells out: the pistachio croissant with pistachio frangipane, a za'atar-and-labne croissant, a gluten-free basbousa coffee cake (their Palestinian take on the classic), sticky date cake and caramel tahina brownies.
At lunch, manakeesh flatbreads come out, and the move is the Pasterma sandweesh ($14): house pastrami, Seedo's slaw, fresh herbs, pickles and basil aioli on taboon. Mama's lentil soup is $5 and vegan. There's a second location at 181 W. Madison. Both are open weekdays only, 8AM to 3PM, so plan accordingly. Order ahead online, and catering is available.
