Punch House commits all the way to its bit: descend into the basement of Thalia Hall — the same 1892 building that houses the concert hall and Dusek's upstairs — and you're standing in what's styled like a loving, slightly unhinged recreation of somebody's 1970s rec room.

Wood paneling, retro lamps, deep vinyl booths, a mounted trophy fish on the wall, a lit fish tank behind the bar. It's kitsch with real craft underneath it: founder William Duncan built the menu entirely around punch, Chicago's most under-sung cocktail format, pulling from centuries-old maritime recipes alongside his own modern riffs. Drinks come by the glass, the carafe, or a full tableside bowl for the table to share, plus a rotating lineup on tap and a proper Champagne punch service for anyone who wants to make an occasion of it.

Food leans into the same cheeky-but-serious register — East and West Coast oysters, beef-fat fries, a fondue pot loaded with pretzel, pork belly, and tempura vegetables. It's the rare bar that's genuinely fun to look at and also pours a drink worth ordering twice, which is why it's kept a loyal following in Pilsen for over a decade while flashier concepts around it have come and gone.
