Open Outcry Brewing wears its origin story right on the tap list: owner John Brand walked away from a career trading futures on LaSalle Street in 2016, bought the shuttered O'Brien's Pub on Western Avenue, and opened a brewery in 2017 named for the shouting-and-hand-signals trading style he'd just left behind.

Beer names lifted straight from options-trading jargon (Black Scholes, Piña Colada Speculator) from a brewery founded by a former futures trader — paired with wood-fired Neapolitan pizza and a rooftop beer garden.

The beer names keep the bit going — Black Scholes (a direct nod to the options-pricing formula), Fishing with Horus, Piña Colada Speculator, Sweet Alley Pub Ale — which is either the nerdiest branding in Chicago craft beer or the most honest. Katie and Jim Beck took over ownership in 2024 and renovated and expanded the space rather than starting over, keeping the wood-fired Neapolitan pizza program (an arugula-and-prosciutto pie is a reasonable order), the rooftop beer garden, and a 22-seat shared communal table alongside sports-bar TVs in the back corner. Crowlers go home with anyone who wants to keep drinking somewhere else.

The bar program goes beyond beer too — a bartender-recommended Brambleberry Zipper mixes vodka, blackberry liqueur, and a grapefruit radler, proof the kitchen isn't just an afterthought to the brew kettles. No happy hour turned up in research. What is confirmed: the City of Chicago's own inspection record shows Open Outcry passing as recently as November 2025, which is about as unglamorous a way as there is to prove a Morgan Park brewery is still actually pouring.
