Vienna Beef inducted Mr D's into its Hot Dog Hall of Fame in 2016, and the restaurant was featured on one of the very first episodes of WGN's Chicago's Best, well before the segment became a local institution of its own. Time Out's reviewer actually prefers the steak sandwich over the namesake shish kebab — thin, marinated ribeye on a French roll with onions and tomatoes — with fries cut fresh for every order rather than held frozen.
