Jeff Donahue and Wade McElroy of Leisure Activities took over the old Orbit Room space in Avondale to open Ludlow Liquors, and the bar runs on a structure that's more generous than the usual happy hour: it stretches across the first and last two hours of service every single day, not one fixed window.

The $10 smash burger anchors the food menu, but the full lineup has its own personalities -- the SuperHai, the Rodeo, the KimCheese, the Wasabi Bleu -- alongside house cocktails like Down the Rabbit Hole, the Lower East Side, and a Kimchi Michelada. Sundays and Mondays bring a standing $10 hot dog and beer combo.

Wednesdays belong to "Whiskey Wednesday," a vinyl-and-chess night hosted by James Grace where guests are invited to bring their own records; weekends shift to rotating DJ sets. The space also houses Gud Knife, an on-site cutlery shop doing knife sharpening, repair, and custom handles.
