More than five decades later, the business has stayed rooted in that neighborhood rather than just expanding away from it: a new mural at the original location was made in collaboration with a local artist, the restaurant partners with Casa Humilde, it sponsors Ballet Folklorico Xochitl, and it takes part in the Mexican Independence Day Parade on 26th Street every year. This Pilsen location came later, opened by the founder's parents as the business grew, and the extended Gonzalez family still runs the operation today -- a real multi-generation family business built on community ties, not a franchise trading on a founding name.
