Lillie's Q has had a rockier road than most Chicago BBQ institutions — its original Bucktown flagship on North Avenue suffered serious fire damage and never reopened — but chef Charlie McKenna's 2010-founded Southern barbecue concept is alive and well at its current West Town home, tucked inside District Brew Yards, a hall that houses multiple breweries under one roof.

That setting alone makes it an easy pairing stop: order a plate of brisket, pulled pork, or fried chicken, grab a beer from whichever tenant brewery is pouring, and settle in on the patio (the only spot where dogs are welcome). The Southern menu runs deeper than the smoked meats themselves — shrimp and grits, fried pickles, a genuine Brunswick stew, baked beans, and a banana pudding that closes things out properly.

It's no-reservations, 21-and-up, which keeps the vibe closer to a casual taproom hang than a sit-down dinner. A December 2024 acquisition by OWS Foods hasn't visibly changed the format, at least based on what's still on the menu and the address — the brand's survived a literal fire and a corporate sale and still shows up with the same smoked-meat fundamentals.
