Lil' Ba-Ba-Reeba! is the River North little sibling of Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba!, the Lincoln Park spot that chef Gabino Sotelino and Lettuce Entertain You's Rich Melman opened in December 1985 as Chicago's first real tapas bar — and the younger one has the better deal calendar.

Weekday happy hour (Monday through Friday, 3:30 to 5:30pm, dine-in only) is a genuinely cheap way to eat Spanish: $1.50 pintxos like a deviled egg under crispy jamón ibérico or a chorizo-wrapped date stuffed with manchego, a $2.50 gilda (the gordal olive, piparra pepper and Cantabrian anchovy skewer San Sebastián bars are built on), a $5 beef slider with mahón cheese and piquillo pepper, and $5 glasses of every sangria on draft, with $4 Estrella Galicia and $6 Spanish wines for anyone who isn't here for the sangria. Mondays get their own hook — any sangria pitcher on the menu for $22 — and weekends bring the main event: bottomless draft sangria for $30 a person, Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 2:45pm, as long as you order any brunch tapa alongside it. Spain's tourism bureau has certified it under its 'Restaurants from Spain' program, which is a nicer credential than most tapas spots can claim.

Two things worth knowing before the check lands: there's a 3.5% surcharge on every bill (they'll take it off if you ask), and October pitchers of the Sangría del Día carry a $1 donation for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Doors open at 3:30pm Monday through Thursday and 11am Friday through Sunday, a block off the Grand Red Line stop.
