The menu runs wider than that single dish — salads, tacos, sandwiches, seafood, grain and vegetable bowls, smoothies, and wraps — and many items are deliberately named after community leaders and local figures, turning the menu itself into a small tribute to the neighborhood. Joe also paints the restaurant's murals by hand, with messages like 'love each other' and 'stay peaceful' visible through the windows even after closing.
The restaurant's resilience became its own story in 2023, when a vehicle crashed through the storefront and forced a roughly two-month closure — the restaurant reopened that November, with Joe explicitly framing the incident as separate from what LiFE means to its community. For Joe, the restaurant is as much about showing young people in the neighborhood a positive path forward as it is about serving food, a mission that's held steady through real adversity.
