Laschet's Inn has run as a German pub on Irving Park Road since 1971, in a stretch of North Center that used to be a genuinely German neighborhood — it and Resi's Bierstube are the two survivors of that era still serving the real thing.

A different German dinner special every night, Lithuanian rye bread from Bruno's Bakery, and a wienerschnitzel one well-traveled reviewer called the best they'd had in Chicago, Milwaukee, or Germany — at a North Center pub running since 1971.

The beer list runs deep on German pilsners, dunkels, and hefeweizens, but the kitchen is the actual draw: one well-traveled reviewer who'd eaten at German restaurants across Chicago, Milwaukee, and Germany itself called Laschet's wienerschnitzel the best version they'd had anywhere, full stop. Rouladen has been a specialty since 1991 — beef rolled around pickle and onion, braised into a rich brown gravy, served alongside sweet braised cabbage and genuinely fluffy spaetzle. A different dinner special runs every night, and even the bread basket gets real attention: warm Lithuanian rye from Bruno's Bakery in Bridgeport rather than a generic dinner roll.

The kitchen stays open until 10:30pm most nights (10pm Sunday), closed Mondays. More than fifty years in, it's not trading on nostalgia alone — the schnitzel earns the reputation on its own terms.
