That parent company's history goes back further than most shoppers realize: it started as a Korean-food wholesaler in 1986 and didn't move into retail until the early 1990s, when it opened the first store under the Joong Boo Market name. The company has since grown into a small regional chain -- the Kimball Avenue store in Avondale was actually the second location, following an earlier one in Sauganash, and Chicago Food Corporation also holds the trademark for the Hi Mart grocery brand.
Reviewers of the flagship describe it as always buzzing, built around a cafe and a dumpling stand alongside the grocery aisles. Beyond the shared ownership and format, independent Glenview-specific detail is thin online.
