Hokkaido Ramen Santouka

Super GemArlington Heights (suburb) · Japanese/Ramen Community-sourced, unverified
📍 100 E Algonquin Rd #153 (Mitsuwa Marketplace), Arlington Heights, IL 60005

The chain started in 1988, when founder Hitoshi Hatanaka opened a nine-seat shop in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, after watching the ramen film Tampopo and deciding he could do better — his standard was "simple ramen anyone can keep eating forever," a tonkotsu broth meant to be drinkable to the last drop.

Super GemChicago Exclusive Gem$$
Widely considered the best ramen in Chicagoland, and the line on a Sunday is the proof.
📈 Scores in the top 99% of Chicago Exclusive Gems on ChicagoSpecials.com

It's franchised globally since 1995, and this Arlington Heights location, tucked inside the Mitsuwa Marketplace food court, brings that Hokkaido standard to the northwest suburbs. The menu displays actual epoxy-encased food replicas so you know exactly what you're ordering; expect a line, especially Sundays.

There's no coupon or happy-hour angle here — the draw is purely the broth, and at a 4.4-star average across 700-plus Google reviews, it doesn't need one. Bring cash; the food-court counter doesn't take cards, and there's no waiting list, just the line itself.
