Guildhall calls itself "an American bistro with a sophisticated attitude," and the Glencoe location backs that up with real pedigree -- chef Christian Ragano previously cooked at Tru and NoMI, two of Chicago's most decorated fine-dining kitchens, before landing in a converted hardware store near the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Owners Alec Litowitz and Eric Fosse opened the space in March 2013 and later went on to open Winnetka's Mino's Italian as well, so Guildhall was the start of a small restaurant group rather than a one-off.

The kitchen runs on a daily happy hour (3-5pm), full lunch and dinner service, and weekend brunch (Saturday-Sunday, 10am-2:30pm), with the restaurant describing its approach as working with local and artisanal purveyors rather than leaning on a big-distributor pantry.
