El Burrito Mexicano has served this Lisle strip mall for more than 30 years, and the thing regulars warn newcomers about is the salsa -- ask for it "hot hot" and the kitchen will actually deliver, a genuinely fiery red sauce that isn't dialed back for a suburban crowd.

The salsa verde has its own following too, good enough that people have asked to buy it by the bottle. It stays open late on Fridays and Saturdays, well past when most Lisle restaurants have closed. It's a real hole-in-the-wall in the best sense -- one reviewer got two-plus days of food (huge burritos, steak tacos, avocado tortas) out of a $13 order.
