From Bruce Finkelman -- the Empty Bottle and Longman & Eagle owner -- and chef Jared Wentworth, the restaurant opened in 2013 and went on to hold a Michelin star for several years running, an unusual distinction for a beer hall built around shareable small plates.
News of the closure broke in mid-December 2023; the restaurant kept serving through New Year's Eve, and Finkelman's statement to local outlets never spelled out why the kitchen was shutting down. Thalia Hall itself, along with the building's other rooms -- the Punch House cocktail bar downstairs and the Tack Room piano lounge -- stayed open and unaffected.
