Durkin's Tavern holds the North Side's oldest continuous beer license, a claim that traces back to an actual Prohibition-era building history: before 1918 it was a restaurant, then ran as "Willy's Speakeasy" from 1918 to 1933, per Dennis McCarthy's Great Chicago Bar & Saloon Guide.

Margaret Durkin took over as proprietress the moment Prohibition ended in 1933 and ran the place until 1974 — the name has stuck ever since. The bar has also become a real gathering spot for Pittsburgh sports fans, reportedly because an earlier owner's own Pittsburgh loyalty rubbed off on the place.

Fridays run a $20 "Happy Meal" package, food and drinks included, from 6 to 11pm.
