Davanti Enoteca Naperville is the downtown Chicago Avenue outpost of the rustic Italian wine bar that Scott Harris, the restaurateur behind Mia Francesca, built on a simple premise: food tastes better when the whole table is reaching for it.

The menu is small plates in the spirit of Mediterranean tapas, and the dish that made the brand is the focaccia di Recco, a thin Ligurian flatbread filled with soft cow's-milk cheese and finished with honeycomb, which disappears faster than anyone admits. The other house classic is polenta and ragu, braised pork shoulder spooned over soft polenta, and from there the menu runs through whipped ricotta with honeycomb, burrata, shrimp Capri, calamari fritti, Nonna's meatballs and grilled octopus with nduja vinaigrette before landing on pastas like orecchiette with fennel sausage, Dana's Bolognese, lobster tortellacci and butternut squash agnolotti with brown butter. The wine list is the other half of the name, with Italian imports by the glass and bottle.

The deal worth planning around is aperitivo hour, Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 6pm, when arancini with black truffle fondue, fried Roman artichokes, baked goat cheese, bruschette, meatball sliders and the pizzetta of the day all land between $8 and $10. It's closed Mondays, opens at 4pm the rest of the week, and takes reservations on OpenTable, with a sister location in Western Springs.
