The Cubby Bear opened in 1953 as a humble corner tavern across from Wrigley Field and grew into a live music venue starting in the early 1980s — Naked Raygun played here in summer 1982, one of the earliest notable shows in what became a real rock and punk booking history, not just a sports bar that happens to have a stage.

Maxim named it Chicago's #1 neighborhood bar and Sports Illustrated ranked it 7th best sports bar in the country. $5 well Bloody Marys on Fridays, but Cubs home-game days shift the hours — call ahead rather than trust a posted schedule.
