Common Decency opened in April 2024 on Diversey Avenue in Logan Square from Milkhorse Hospitality — chef Mark Steuer (ex-Funkenhausen, Carriage House) alongside partners Kelsey Kasper, Jason Turley, and Felipe Hernandez — and it's built around a genuinely rare combination: an entirely gluten-free menu, run out of a dedicated celiac-safe kitchen, inside an unapologetically '80s-themed room with a rotating disco ball, glass-block bar, and loud wallpaper.

The food doesn't read like a workaround for a dietary restriction; it reads like a real bar-food menu that happens to clear that bar anyway — a mushroom French dip, cacio e pepe dumplings, roasted oysters with pork belly and bread crumbs, a grilled hanger steak, and the 'Decent Cheeseburger,' alongside crispy wedge fries and a loaded veggie crudite. The cocktail list runs through mezcal, vodka, gin, aquavit, and vermouth with a genuine zero-proof program built in rather than bolted on as an afterthought, and it's all served from 2pm until 2am.

For anyone managing celiac disease or gluten intolerance in Chicago, it's one of the only full bar-and-kitchen experiences in the city where that's simply not a constraint on the order.
