Start with the supper club relish tray and shrimp & crab bisque, then the Queen's Boeuf Bourguignon. Better yet, come Saturday for the Beef Wellington, and call ahead because it sells out.

Carnivore & The Queen is a contemporary revival of the prohibition-era supper club: independently owned, built for lingering over an evening, with dishes meant for sharing. It's dedicated to the owners' mothers, Holly and Georgene, who taught them to get the family around the dinner table every night. Dinner starts the old way, with a relish tray of '60s spreads and dips, then the Queen's family shrimp and crab bisque, and shrimp de Jonghe, a dish that originated in Chicago. Julia Child gets her due in the Boeuf Bourguignon and Chicken Cordon Bleu. The week is a supper club calendar. Tuesday adds a five-course upgrade for $29 and half-price wine bottles.

Wednesday is burger night with a house shake. Thursday brings herb-crusted prime rib, Friday a Lake Superior walleye fish fry, and Saturday a limited run of Beef Wellington that you reserve by phone. Happy hour runs 2 to 5pm Tuesday through Thursday and from noon on Friday. It's open Tuesday through Saturday, with Sunday brunch on special dates. Pay the whole bill in cash to save 3%, and book ahead.
