Cafe Alif

Food + DrinkWest Ridge · Uyghur Community-sourced, unverified
📍 2245 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659

Cafe Alif carries real weight behind its menu — chef and owner Kasimzhan Khamraev opened the West Ridge restaurant in 2022 specifically to bring Uyghur food to Chicago as a way of keeping the culture visible while his people face genocide in China, cooking alongside his own family rather than running a conventional restaurant operation.

$$

The halal menu runs through lagman noodles and samsa, the same foundational dishes that define Uyghur cooking across the handful of restaurants serving it in Chicago.

It's a deeply personal project as much as a business, and one of only a few places in the entire city where this specific, politically loaded cuisine gets a real platform — worth confirming it's still open before a special trip, since more recent coverage wasn't found.
