Build Coffee

Food + DrinkWoodlawn · Cafe / Coffee Community-sourced, unverified
📍 6100 S Blackstone Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

Build Coffee is the rare cafe that's also a used bookshop and a community meeting space, tucked inside Woodlawn's Experimental Station — the same building that hosts the 61st Street Farmers Market.

$

The coffee comes from Halfwit Roasters, the books are secondhand and cheap, and the whole operation reads less like a business plan and more like a neighborhood institution that happens to sell cortados.

It changed hands in 2025, with longtime supporters stepping in to keep it running, so some details here may already be shifting — but the role it plays on the South Side hasn't.
