Blind Faith Cafe

Iconic/NotableEvanston (suburb) · Vegetarian Community-sourced, unverified
📍 525 Dempster St, Evanston, IL 60201

Ivan Newell and Fran Welch opened Blind Faith Cafe in 1979 with almost no money or experience, making it the Chicago area's oldest vegetarian restaurant — Evanston native David Lipschutz took over in 1982 and moved it to its current Dempster Street home in 1985, adding an on-site bakery.

Nearly 50 years running on a concept that was genuinely unusual when it opened, not trend-following. The namesake Blind Faith Burger (vegan, cheese optional) and the Blind Faith Salad (mixed greens, jack cheese, raisins, cashews, avocado, white miso dressing) share the name for a reason.
