The Blueberry Pancake Cake and Birthday Cake vegan brioche donuts — the latter is the exact flavor that sent this alley walk-up window viral on TikTok and later earned it a #13 national Yelp ranking.

It didn't need the mystique to find an audience, though — in April 2021, Chicago food creators Michael Loumeau and Aly Bainbridge (the duo behind @bestdatefood) posted a video of themselves eating the shop's Birthday Cake doughnut that cracked a million views, and the daily line reportedly went from nobody to about 40 people waiting in the alley almost overnight. The shop has kept that momentum: Yelp named it Illinois' best doughnut shop and later ranked it #13 on its national list of the top 50 U.S. donut shops, with the Blueberry Pancake Cake, Apple Fritter, and Chocolate Glazed Brioche getting singled out as the most-reviewed flavors. The dough itself is the real technical hook — a 24-hour vegan brioche base, which is an unusual, labor-intensive choice for a format most shops just buy pre-mixed.
