Bar Roma

DrinkAndersonville · Italian Community-sourced, unverified
📍 5101 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640

Owner Julia Zhu and chef Fred Ramos built Bar Roma around one specific idea: Rome, not the red-sauce American version of Italian food most Chicago restaurants default to.

$$
The lasagna with bolognese is the reliable order, and the chocolate lava cake is the dessert worth saving room for even after a heavy meal.

That means meatballs done the Roman way, house-made pasta (cacio e pepe and carbonara get taken seriously here), and wood-fired dishes built around whatever the kitchen is leaning on that week. The lasagna with bolognese is the order regulars keep coming back for, and the chocolate lava cake is worth saving room for even after a genuinely heavy meal. The room itself is casual, Andersonville-casual, which is to say: come as you are, but don't expect a quick in-and-out -- this is sit-and-stay-a-while Italian, not a slice counter.

Happy hour runs Tuesday through Sunday, 4-6pm, discounted drinks across the board. The kitchen is dark on Mondays -- plan around it rather than showing up and finding out the hard way.
