The family-owned restaurant opened on Oakton Street on Father's Day in June 2010, and fifteen years later it is still the bright, loud, packed room where Skokie goes for something better than a two-egg special. The Latin streak runs right through the menu. Chilakillers are tortilla chips sautéed in a house killer salsa and crowned with over-easy eggs, cotija, avocado and plantains, the carnitas hash uses Coke-braised pork with black bean chili and salsa verde, and the chile relleno comes with chorizo, Mayan sauce, Spanish rice and tortillas. Then it swerves Mediterranean, with shakshouka toast on sourdough and a feta omelette with kalamata olives, and goes full dessert with tres leches French toast, churro French toast with dulce de leche, and banana rum hotcakes.
Lunch brings a house-made corned beef Reuben, carnitas and pork belly tacos and a chipotle chicken lunch burrito, and a weekly specials board keeps the regulars guessing with things like a pancetta Benedict and key lime French toast. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-conscious diners get real options, not afterthoughts. Open daily 8am to 2pm.
