Chef Elio Romero runs Alcove — Evanston (formerly Chef's Station) out of a genuinely strange location for a serious kitchen: a space tucked directly under the Metra's Davis Street stop, the kind of spot most people would walk past assuming it was just a train underpass.

The goat cheese tart is the savory standout, and the bread pudding at the end is the reason to save room.

The menu is contemporary American and seasonally rewritten often enough that a regular's favorite dish from last month might already be gone by the next visit.
