Slow Dance
About This Event
Slow Dance isn't a dance show in the spectacular sense — it's a group exhibition built around a pointed question: what happens to a body, and to art, when it refuses the contemporary demand to constantly perform, whether that's in public, on social media, or at work. Six artists (Brendan Fernandes, Gordon Hall, Geumhyung Jeong, Carolyn Lazard, Melanie McLain, and Cally Spooner) approach performance two ways at once — as a medium rooted in live bodies, and as the economic pressure to always be productive and fast.
The show mixes painting, sculpture, and video with actual in-gallery performance activations that run throughout the seven-month exhibition, curated by Jadine Collingwood (the MCA's Pamela Alper Associate Curator) with Korina Hernandez. That live-performance element means the show changes depending on when you visit, not a fixed set of objects you see once and are done with.
Worth knowing: it runs Sept 12, 2026 through March 14, 2027 in the museum's Sylvia Neil and Daniel Fischel Galleries on the second floor — plenty of time, but worth checking the MCA's calendar for a date with a scheduled performance activation if that's the draw.
