Notes on Love (Joffrey Ballet)
About This Event
Notes on Love is a three-piece mixed bill, not a single ballet, and each piece takes a different angle on its title word. The real premiere is Houston Thomas's Dear Chicago: A Love Letter, set to an original Jonathan Bingham score with layered poetry woven through it — Thomas, a Winning Works choreographic-lab alum, built it explicitly as a tribute to the city that shaped his career.
The other two pieces are previously staged works new to this particular bill: Nicolas Blanc's All That Remains, set to Ezio Bosso's music and following three dancers through attachment and memory, and Liam Scarlett's Hummingbird, set to Philip Glass's Tirol Concerto and built around a progression of three pas de deux — the Joffrey first staged Hummingbird back in its 2023–24 season.
Worth knowing: as a mixed-rep program, individual performance times vary across the Feb 4–14 run — pick your date on joffrey.org rather than assuming one fixed curtain time.
