Guys and Dolls
About This Event
Frank Loesser's 1950 score — "Luck Be a Lady," "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat," "A Bushel and a Peck" — is routinely ranked among the best Broadway has ever produced, and the book, adapted from Damon Runyon's short stories about New York gamblers and the women trying to reform them, is still one of the funniest in the American musical canon. The Lyric's summer-musical slot is reviving it after a four-season gap.
One correction worth making up front: this isn't a Sondra Radvanovsky vehicle. The acclaimed soprano joined Lyric this season as its new Artistic Advisor, but her only confirmed 2026–27 stage appearance so far is a separate aria-and-duet recital with tenor SeokJong Baek — not this musical. Principal casting for Guys and Dolls hadn't been announced as of this writing, so don't go in expecting a specific star.
What is confirmed: director Francesca Zambello is setting the Save-a-Soul Mission as a kind of liminal space between the show's original Prohibition-era 1930s and a more modern New York, with choreography by Emmy winner Joshua Bergasse (Smash) and James Lowe conducting Lyric's full pit orchestra — the kind of scale this score usually only gets from an opera house, not a touring bus.
