Adler sits at the very tip of its own promontory on Museum Campus, which means the skyline view from outside the building is almost as good a reason to go as what's inside. Once you're in, the dome shows are the centerpiece β book your two included sky shows for a specific time rather than wandering in and hoping for a walk-up seat, since they're subject to availability.
How to Spend the Day
Morning (9:00 AM open)
Grab your sky show times for the day as soon as you arrive β they're day-of only, not pre-bookable online, and the good slots fill first.
Between shows
The Telescope exhibits and the historic instrument collection fill the gaps well and are far less crowded than the dome theaters.
Outside
The promontory walk around the building is free and open to anyone β one of the best skyline photo spots on Museum Campus, even if you're not going inside.
Afternoon
Your second included sky show, if you spaced the two out rather than doing them back to back.
How Chicago CityPASS® Actually Works Here (ELI5)
The short version: buy once online, get a mobile pass instantly, show it on your phone at the door.
- Buy Chicago CityPASS® online (button above) — you get a mobile pass delivered immediately, no printing needed.
- Use the email you buy with to set up the My CityPASS app or my.citypass.com — that's where your tickets, reservations, and attraction details live.
- If the attraction needs a timed entry reservation, reserve it through the app before you go — reservations are subject to availability, so earlier is safer, especially on weekends.
- At the door, show your mobile ticket on your phone. That's it — no separate line, no voucher exchange.
- You have 1 year from purchase to start using the pass; once you use the first attraction, the rest of the attractions are valid for 9 consecutive days.
Chicago CityPASS® covers museum entry plus two sky shows, booked day-of in person (no advance online reservation), subject to availability. One confirmed exception: special presentations in the Grainger Sky Theater β like a ticketed music/visual show β are not included and run an extra fee (roughly $20) at the box office on top of your included shows.
Parking
Adler's own site is upfront that it doesn't set or control these rates, and that event-day surge pricing applies β check before a weekend visit.
- Adler's own lot (next to the museum) β around $25 for a full day, $15 at night (after 4pm), $12 early-bird (before 9:30am); oversized vehicles cost more.
- Soldier Field North Garage β around $25 for up to 4 hours, $30 for up to 12 hours, $50 for 12β24 hours.
Where to Eat
- Cosmic CafΓ© (operated by Food for Thought) β soups, sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads with a lake and skyline view. Hours vary by season and source β confirm same-day rather than assuming it's open when you arrive.
- Field Museum and Shedd are both a short walk away on the same Museum Campus stretch if Cosmic CafΓ© is closed or you want a change of scenery mid-day.
