White Sox Home Opener vs. Milwaukee Brewers
About This Event
The White Sox open their season on the road, but the home opener against Milwaukee is real scheduling trivia on its own — the first time the Brewers have been the home-opener opponent at 35th and Shields since 1995. Tickets are always cheapest and most available at the gate this early in a new season.
The franchise dates to 1901, a charter member of the American League, and won the league's very first pennant that inaugural year. They've won three World Series total — 1906 (beating the crosstown Cubs, the only intra-Chicago World Series ever played), 1917, and then an 88-year gap before 2005, when they swept Houston for their first title since 1917. In between came the darkest chapter in team history: the 1919 'Black Sox' scandal, when eight players — including Shoeless Joe Jackson — were banned for life for throwing the World Series. The team played at the original Comiskey Park from 1910 until the current ballpark (now Rate Field, previously known by several other sponsor names) opened across the street in 1991.
