Adirondack Chair Circle
About This Event
A Chicago playwright's world-premiere satire — suburban moms, pickleball paddles, and a school-board book-banning fight, directed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon.
Stephanie Alison Walker is Chicago-based, and her Adirondack Chair Circle follows Banna, a perfection-chasing suburban mom who leads a tight-knit group of like-minded moms crusading against what they call the school district's 'indoctrination' — namely, the books available in the school library. Walker plays it as comedy, but a pointed one, poking at the hypocrisy of the causes people claim and the company they keep once the group starts to crack from the inside. Director Pam MacKinnon won her Tony for Best Direction of a Play in 2013 for the Broadway revival of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' — she'd also directed Steppenwolf-adjacent circles before, having staged the original Off-Broadway run of 'Clybourne Park' that won her an Obie.
Worth knowing: this is a world premiere, so there's no earlier production to preview it from — no single showtime to add to a calendar either, since it runs through Dec 6, 2026; check steppenwolf.org for the schedule and ticket prices.
