The Hand & The Eye is a genuinely strange and ambitious bet: take the McCormick Mansion — the Near North Side building that spent more than four decades as Lawry's The Prime Rib before that restaurant closed in 2020 — and spend $50 million turning it into a five-level magic theater with 37 rooms, seven performance spaces, and a dining program serious enough to be run by Levy Restaurants.

Developer Glen Tullman and designer Rockwell Group built something closer to a theme park than a dinner show: guests move through the mansion over roughly three hours, catching close-up magic and larger stage performances in different rooms, with a 90-minute sit-down dinner worked into the route rather than bookended onto it. The food leans into old-school Chicago steakhouse DNA that nods at the building's Lawry's past — chicken Vesuvio, prime beef carpaccio, a Grasshopper baked Alaska — served on Ginori 1735 china, which tells you this isn't trying to be a kitschy magic-castle gimmick.

It's 21-and-up, dressy, and not cheap (full-experience tickets run north of $225 including a drink/dining credit), but it's also unlike anything else on the Mag Mile — a real answer to the question of what a modern, adult-oriented magic venue looks like when nobody caps the budget.
