Tavern on the Point

Edison Park · American/Gastropub Community-sourced, unverified
📍 6724 N Northwest Hwy, Chicago, IL 60631

Owner John Capesius set out to build 'the greatest community tavern around' when he opened Tavern on the Point on Northwest Highway, and the execution backs up the ambition: a spacious rooftop deck overlooking the heart of Edison Park, a shaded sidewalk patio, and a second-floor dining room, all built around a menu Capesius has described as modeled on a Wisconsin supper club — bone-in ribeye, a bourbon-glazed pork chop, lemon butter walleye, alongside what local coverage calls arguably the best fried calamari in the area.

$$
Arguably the best fried calamari in the area, plus carrot cake French toast at weekend brunch — served from a rooftop-and-patio community tavern with a different happy hour deal every weekday.

The happy hour is the real draw, though, and it's specific in exactly the way a good one should be: weekdays 3 to 6 p.m. bring $3 wells, seltzers, and domestic beers, half-price appetizers, and kids under 12 eating free, with a different hook added on top each day — a $10 burger-and-beer combo plus trivia or name-that-tune on Mondays, half-price wine bottles on Tuesdays, 99-cent wings on Wednesdays, and a Thursday ladies night running $5 mixed drinks and $8 Tito's martinis alongside the standing half-price apps. Weekend brunch runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with carrot cake French toast, breakfast burritos, and a filet Benedict covering the more ambitious end of a brunch menu. The place also functions as an actual neighborhood hub beyond the menu — hosting police, school, and breast cancer fundraisers, Acoustic Fridays, and holiday markets, plus handling private parties and catering.

No confirmed Instagram or Facebook account turned up in research, which is a gap for a restaurant doing this much community programming, but the website and the itemized weekly happy hour calendar are solidly documented on their own. For a neighborhood that doesn't always get a restaurant with this much specific intention behind it, Edison Park landed a good one.
