SuSu

West Loop · MediterrAsian Steakhouse Community-sourced, unverified
📍 652 W Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60661

SuSu moved into West Loop's heaviest-pedigreed address in early 2026 — the space that used to hold Grace, one of Chicago's only three-Michelin-starred restaurants before it closed — and rather than chase that same fine-dining formality, it's built something looser and more specific: a self-described 'MediterrAsian' steakhouse from owner Paul Alqas, managing partner Chase Meyer, and executive chef/partner Alexander Willis.

A5 wagyu with a black tahini bearnaise and saffron lobster dumplings in Moroccan chili bisque — a self-described 'MediterrAsian' steakhouse occupying the former Grace space, one of Chicago's only three-Michelin-starred restaurants.

The menu treats that hybrid seriously rather than as a gimmick — poached halibut with garbanzo beans and clam dashi, saffron lobster dumplings in a Moroccan chili bisque, grilled octopus with potato mochi, and A5 wagyu finished with either a teriyaki demi or a black tahini bearnaise, sauces that actually commit to the Mediterranean-meets-Asian premise instead of just namedropping both regions. The room is built to shift gears over the course of a night, moving from a proper dinner service into a livelier late-night scene as the hours go on. The happy hour is real and clearly posted on the restaurant's own site: Tuesday and Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. — a four-day window that's generous for a restaurant wearing four dollar signs on most review sites.

It's closed Sunday and Monday entirely, which is an unusual call for a West Loop destination restaurant but suggests a kitchen more interested in doing fewer nights well than chasing every possible dinner service. For a restaurant occupying a space this loaded with prior significance, the early read is that SuSu isn't trying to be the next Grace — it's trying to be its own thing entirely, and specific enough about what that thing is to actually pull it off.
