Superkhana International

Iconic/NotableLogan Square · Indian-American Community-sourced, unverified
📍 3059 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Superkhana International grew out of Yoshi Yamada and Zeeshan Shah's five-year pop-up series, Bombay Breakdown, before opening as a permanent Logan Square restaurant in July 2019 with backing from Lula Cafe's Jason Hammel.

$$

Yamada, a Fulbright scholar who studied Mumbai street food, and Shah, who grew up watching his Indian father adapt recipes with American ingredients, build the menu from those personal histories rather than calling it "fusion" -- flatbread tacos and butter-chicken calzones are the kind of dishes that only make sense once you know where they came from, and notably, rice doesn't appear anywhere on the menu, a deliberate break from expectation that the Chicago Tribune called out in its 2019 review. The restaurant's been recognized well beyond the neighborhood since: it's listed in the Michelin Guide, Bon Appetit included it on a list of the country's next-generation pizza restaurants, and it made the James Beard Awards' 2025 semifinalist list.

It's closed Monday and Tuesday, with dinner service Wednesday through Saturday and weekend brunch.
