Soul Veg City

Food + DrinkGrand Crossing · Vegan Soul Food Community-sourced, unverified
📍 203 E 75th St, Chicago, IL 60619

Soul Veg City has been proving for roughly 40 years that vegan soul food doesn't have to feel like a compromise — it just used to go by a different name, Original Soul Vegetarian, before a 2021 renovation brought the rebrand.

$

About 90% of the menu is made in-house: smothered seitan steak and gravy standing in for the real thing, cornbread dressing, and a vegan mac and cheese that regularly gets singled out in coverage. It runs both a deli counter and a hot station, which means you can grab something fast or sit down for a full plate.

Contact details are genuinely hard to pin down online, which tracks with a 40-year-old neighborhood institution that's never needed a marketing budget to stay busy.
